Perth has had a great punk rock scene for a while now and Ghoulies are no exception. The egg punk four-piece rocked out Clancy’s Fish Pub in Fremantle last Saturday night in support of their new 7” ‘Reprogram’. Supporting them were fellow punk rockers Cold Meat and coldwave duo Church Group.
Church Group was the first act on. Think Joy Division but swap the guitars and drums with drum machines and synths. They had me singing these really dark, morbid lines but I could help myself singing because it was so catchy.
Cold Meat was up next. I was eager to see them because I loved last year's 'Hot and Flustered’ record. And oh boy, it was everything I expected and more. Brash vocals from frontwomen Ashley Ack and a guitar tone reminiscent of Eddy Current Suppression Ring. They had me headbanging until my neck hurt.

The main act of the night was Ghoulies. They came out piping hot with a blistering 20-minute set. They were all playing their hardest and fastest and I can honestly say it sounded way better in person. The main highlight for me was one of the singers and guitarist Charles Wickham. I feel like his songwriting is really good and his vocal delivery was wild. The rest of the band was awesome too. They are all one hell of a unit.
If you like your Punk and live in WA, you would have been a fool to miss this one. Get all of these great bands on your radar!

Ghoulies' new 7” ‘Reprogram‘ is out now digitally. You can still grab one of the records but they still haven’t arrived yet. In the words of bassist and singer Alec Thomas, “It’s the biggest delay since the Pfizer vaccine.” Order one now and patiently wait for it to burn up your turntable.
