Dockers Can Break Finals Drought

Former Docker Jay Van Berlo believes Fremantle will make a return to finals action for the first time since 2015.

Speaking to the Eclipse breakfast show on Tuesday, Van Berlo said not only is the club capable of locking away a position in the eight, but they can also cause damage in September if luck falls their way.
“It’s pretty simple for the boys, their best footy this year has certainly been good enough to match with the best sides. In years gone by, we would’ve let the Richmond game slip, but it was really outstanding to see guys like Brayshaw and Serong rise to the level.”
Van Berlo pulled on the purple 32 times between 2009 to 2012, leading to a legendary WAFL career with West Perth that included a premiership, two best and fairests and four seasons as skipper before hanging up the boots at the end of 2018.
When asked about veteran David Mundy being on the verge of Matthew Pavlich’s games record, Van Berlo couldn’t speak highly enough of his ex-teammate.
“I’m not really surprised, because he’s such a professional and well-rounded individual. Whilst he’s not the fastest bloke he’s a sensational on-field leader, and his brain and his hands work so much faster than anybody else. I’m just super proud and happy for him.”
The Dockers will look to continue their winning ways against an out-of-form Brisbane this Sunday at Optus Stadium, before a make-or- break Derby 53 against the Eagles, and an away game against the Saints to close out the regular season. Experienced duo Nat Fyfe (shoulder), and Michael Walters (hamstring) won’t feature again 2021, while defender Alex Pearce is expected to be back from the concussion he sustained in the loss to the Swans.
