With 2020 Eurovision cancelled due to Covid-19, the world, well... Europe and Australia at least, were eagerly awaiting the 2021 edition of the Eurovision song contest which was hotly contested over 18th, 20th & 22nd May 2021 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Australia

First thing is to find out how Australia’s, Motaigne perfomed this year. Here' is Montaigne song, Technicolour.

Unfortunately and with some controversy, Australia didn't make it beyond the Semi Finals.

Stephen's must watch contestants for Eurovision 2021 are:

  1. France

  2. Lithuania

  3. Germany

  4. Ukraine

  5. Malta

  6. Iceland

  7. Russia

  8. Switzerland

  9. Norway

The Grand Finalists

(as they appeared in order)

Cyrpus

El Diablo - Pop Diva, Elena Tsagrinou. got a like from Australia .

Albania

Anxhela Peristeri's Karma was well not well received by Australians.

Israel

Pocket Rocket Eden Alene sings Set Me Free , hitting the B6 note (somewhere between a high pitched whistle and a screech), but loved by the crowd and liked by Australia.

Belgium

SBS's Australian hosts Joel Creasey & Miff Warhurst were both unimpressed and surprised this song made it through at the expense of Australia. Miff compared Hooverphonic to Massive Attack & Portishead, but that’s a long bow to draw, it’s about a one night stand gone wrong. Not liked by the Australian public.

Russia Russian Woman by Manizha is all about women empowerment in Russia. The highlight is this giant dress, the lead singer, Manizha wears at the opening. She dalek’s around for a verse or two before a door like the wizard of Oz to rap in russian about a broken family or domestic violence or something - great backdrop animations & flames flying everywhere. Loved by the Australian public.

Malta

Lead singer Destiny is power packed 18 year old, who previously won youth eurovision. Destiny is referred to as is a plus size Beyonce, with a huge voice). MAlta's young darling went into Eurovision as a Hot Favourite. to win. Absolutely loved by Australia and given top votes by the Australian voting panel.

Portugal

The band is named Black Mamba after the Snake, with Love is on my side. The song was said to be controversial in Portugal as its the first Portugeuse song entry, entirely in English. A bit of a traditional rock band balad that starts in a cool black & white, then transitions to colour half way through. well liked by Australians.

Serbia

Hurricane is Serbia's answer to Destiny’s Child. Every dance move in the song Hurricane somehow relates to a word in a song . Favourite lyrics are “I’m sweet choco moco, come be me loco”, but there's plenty more hwere that came from. Liked by Australia.

UK

Finishes at the bottom each year. Would James Newman, UK’s answer to Courtney Murphy perform any differently. LEt's justb say there were not ell liked by Australia... or the Europe.

Greece

Stefania's Last Dance is a trip of a live performance. I was a bit freaked out by the Hollow man dancers, but blown away by Stefania in her Hot Purple glittering xanadu outfit. Liked by Australia

Switzerland

The emotional performance of Tout l'Universe was a special effects smorgasboard by Sascha John Baptiste Gjon might have channelled some Tori Amos in the dance moves. Loved by Australia and most of Europe too.

Iceland

10 years by Daoi og Gagnamagnio. It should be titled, "We’ve got a good thing going". Lead singer Darby must have got the band to make their own jumpers, as they had a caricature of their own face on the front of their own sweater.

The arched keyboards, which became a linked donut keyboard thing where 3 members of the group play together from the inside was innovative to say the least. We saw Air drumming 80’s style and after the song finishes we wait 15 seconds for the pyro's to go off. 2 x band members were missing with Covid, but they had an innovative way of getting things done in the green room. These guys are real characters and what makes Eurovision a blast.. Loved by Australians.

Spain

Blas Cantó wrote Voy A Querdarme as his father passed away . The song is about Blas reaching out and touching heaven... Interesting info, Blas Features on a kelly clarkson single and was part of a band Auryn that failed at the final stage of the heats to become Spains Eurovision rep in 2011. PErfomrance has stars flying around everywhere with this giant moon floating in the sky behind Blas, “with your soul between my fingers, I’m going to stay….” are a some of the lyrics. An emotional ride, but not liked by Australia or Europe.

Moldova

Natalie Gordienco with Sugar. Hot but not well received.

Germany

Jendrik with I don’t Feel Hate - on. This is a much watch with the Eukalele, whistling, a band member dressed as a hand. There's "great" lyrics and... just watch it!.

Finland

Blind chanell with a new metal track called The Dark side. It opens with the lyrics, “Put your middle fingers up, Take a shot, throw it up and don’t stop!” Austrlai loved this.

Bulgaria

VIctoria, dressed in her pyjamas, sings a gorgeous little song called Growing up is getting old. Reminds us of Anna Kendrik in Pitch Perfect. I was expecting her sorority sisters to step out onto the stage and do some acapella. Not well received by Australia

Lithuania

The Roop's hilarious romp called Dicoteque is one of the highlights of Eurovision 2021, although it should be called Dance Alone. The dance is catchy and all about the fingers. It looks and feels like a track that Sascha Baron Coen’s Bruno would make if he dressed the group in canary yellow & combined Skyhooks with “I’m too sexy for this shirt” & Madonna’s Vogue together,. Hilarious & entertaining. Loved by Australia

Ukraine

Go-A (this is the name of the band) with Shum (translated to forrest & noise).

The Ukraine's answer to Trinity from the Matrix with the first Euro entry sung entirely in Ukraine.

Stage and imagery is amazing. Camera work is dizzying & even features a recorder solo. Some of the lyrics:

Sowing, sowing, sowing, sowing Hemp Plants

Sowing, sowing, sowing, sowing lovely green plants . Loved by Australia.

France

Arguably the most beautiful sonf of the Euro's.

Barbara Pravi (after being asked many times to represent France) sings Voila. This won the staging award Pravi is an amazing singer and performer. Loved by Australia

Azerbaijan - Avendi with Matahar Joel Creasey made a great call on behalf of watchers that messaged in, Avendi is the lovechild of Ariana Grande, Selina Gomes and Demi Levato (agreed). Liked by Australia.

Norway’s

Tix with Fallen Angel Picture Julian Lennon in a big white headband (with TIX emblazened across it) with giant white angel wings and chains on his wrists, accompanied onstage with 4 devil angels dancing around him. Tix was the name used to bully him and now he’s taken it on as his moniker. Great fun song

Netherlands

Jeangu McCoy with a nice song called Birth of a new age . We could have expected this to appear in Coming to America 2, but it was enjoyable. Some of the lyrics include:

“Your rhythm is rebellion” between lyrics “You Can’t Break Me” on the back drop. Not well received by Australians though.

Italy

Måneskin brings back the Glam Rock with Zitti E Buoni. They rock & Joel Creasy loves them. They looked like the band that beat Jack black’s kids in “School of rock”. Loved by Austrlaia.

Caught in a Controversy: One of the band members, Damiano, were caught up in a controversy, when seen sniffing something of the table when the camera was panning passed them at the awards cerermony. They've since denied the accusations, but make up your own mind here with the Daily Mail's article.

Sweden

Tusse with Voices. Tusse fled Congo as a 5 year old. and is now singing for Sweden. He mocked the UK over the weekend saying, “You have a great shot at not coming last”.

San Marino

Senhit (with special guest Flo Rider) performed Adrenalina.

This is a Big song with Lady Gaga’s digital welding masks with” Adren A Lina” rolling across them. Australia liked this but not all of Europe.

That's all of the finalists

AND THE WINNER OF EUROVISION 2021 IS...
